"Flowers" from "Hadestown" (Flute Arrangement)
I finally present my finalized flute arrangement sheet music for this heartbreaking song "Flowers" from Hadestown. This arrangement can be played on Solo Flute and optional Alto Flute for a more in-depth countermelody.
Hadestown is a musical, written by Anais Mitchell, that tells the ancient myth about Orpheus and Eurydice and their love ending in tragedy. Mitchell originally wrote the music in 2006 and after many incarnations, it currently runs on Broadway in the Walter Kerr Theater since 2019. "Flowers" is a heartbreaking ballad sung by Eurydice illustrating her reflective regrets of choosing to go to Hadestown. She failed to realize that by coming to Hadestown, she will soon become a forgotten laborer and can never leave unless Hades consents to let her go. She sings of her regrets as her memories of the world above slowly begin to fade, including those of her Orpheus. The use of flowing melodies and dissonance helps bring out the pain and beautiful emotion in this song.
